WHY SAY NO TO TALC?

Talc rocks are crushed, dried, and milled in order to be processed into talc (a mineral). Very minute fibers that are very close to asbestos are not eliminated in this processing. Because talc is so close to asbestos in nature it is important to avoid it from your everyday life. It has been shown that talc particles can cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. The FDA resolved that because of this evidence the amount of the asbestos like fibers would be limited in cosmetics....however no ruling was made then or as of yet today. Talc is therefore a non-regulated mineral in cosmetics. Another research project by the National Toxicology Program in 1933 concluded that cosmetic talc without the asbestos fibers still caused tumors in animals. So why chance having this unnecessary toxic mineral in your cosmetics?

WHY Throw Out SLS/SLES?

Consumers are exposed to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and its close relative Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) many times a day through soap, shampoo, lotions, toothpaste, detergents plus any other “foamy” products. SLS was first discovered and used as a degreaser at the industrial level (garage floor cleaner). It has the affect of stripping the oil layer off skin which in turn irritates it and causes the skin to “erode” which can therefore leave it rough and pitted feeling. Its low molecular weight allows it to easily be absorbed into the body through the skin but because the liver can’t metabolize it the build-up can be extremely detrimental. SLS mimics the activity of the hormone Oestrogen which has been a possible link to the increase cases of fertility problems, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and female cancers. Concentrations of just 0.5% have shown to cause irritation and yet soaps can have up to 30% concentration! SLS is incredibly cheap for these major corporations though so a blind eye is being turned on the possible damage. Plus it’s a vicious cycle of you needing lotion only to be putting SLS on your skin, which in turn strips it of its natural moisture and causing you to need more....pretty unethical way to make money if you ask us!
